Black Coffee
June 14, 2011
Dear Readers, the Swungover post for this week will come probably tomorrow, and it’s a big one. But, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate this incredible video made by a group of Seattle dancers and musicians.
The band is the Careless Lovers, manned by Mike Faltesek, a great dancer, guitarist, (and a good friend). However, you’ll also catch many a recognizable face in the video, including the hilariously deadpan Adam Boehmer behind the coffee bar. This was the First Place entry to Seattle Vintage Jazz Dance’s third annual Swing/Jazz Dance Music Video Contest.

Yeah, really beautiful video!! I think Justin Hill has my favorite moment, though… I lol’d.
Yes, Joon Chang has some wonderful other shorts he has done previously and this one was inspired as well. I think he really nailed the feeling most of us swing dancers get when we are caught practicing in public. A little embarassed at first but we are certainly going to Shorty George around the corner.
Not as far from reality as one might think. The Careless Lovers recently played a (rainy) Sunday afternoon at that very venue in Capitol Hill, and the barista hopped out from behind the counter and asked for an impromptu lesson. I think the highlight of the day was “Black Coffee.”
