A Quick Note on The Balboa Experiment 2012
Kate and I have the honor of working at many fantastic events which do incredible things for the dancing community. So, it isn’t really the goal of Swungover to promote dance events. However, it is the goal of Swungover to promote dance ideas, and The Experiment has a unique education format. They also have a deadline, coming this Friday, on applications for next year.
Really quick: If you like the idea of the camp but are afraid to apply, you might be thinking some of these things:
The Experiment is for a different kind of dancer than me. If you are at the stage of dancing where the idea of doing Balboa for a week-straight with your peers is an exciting idea, THEN APPLY! TODAY! AND MAKE YOUR FRIENDS APPLY! If you do, the organizers know that you’re interested. If they have enough interest, then they can possibly plan future Experiment-type events knowing that interest exist.
I’ve never done well in contests, and hardly ever get out of my town to dance, so it’s probably not for me. The organizers are much more interested in how people work on dancing than how many trophies they have or how many workshops they attend. Creativity, drive, enthusiasm, technique, and how you work with others are the main things the organizers care about.
So, I hope that, if the idea of spending a week at a camp like the kind I described appeals to you, I hope you will take a little bit of time to apply.
I am glad to see it is not conflicting with Balboa Rendezvous this year. I hope this is a trend that will continue.
Highly effective promotion. I am thinking almost all of those things. :)
