A Word on Swing #2: “The Sound Of Music”

March 21, 2012

Hey gang, I’m currently working on the next installment of Love & Swing. Until then, enjoy this:

Jerry Almonte & I attack bad sound quality in DJ & performance recordings. It leads to some interesting places, like an interview with Craig Gildner about early recording problems and how that changes the way we think of early swing guitar. Slowly but surely, we’re learning some tricks of making film documenta— I mean, video blogs.

Thanks for this nice video-blog! As a Swing-Dj and guitar-player, it was really interesting.
One thing you can (and should) do as a dj, is to listen to every (!) available version of a song by a particular artist, on itunes for example. Often, there are some remastered versions that sound quite good, and other ones sounding very thin. Yes, this takes a bit of time, but its well worth it I think!
